November 2024 Edition #3
Dear NY Tech Future Community,
last time, we refined our vision to increase our impact and clarity by sharing with you our three core initiatives - NY Tech Career, the AI Practice and Buzzbrand - all here to empower NYCβs Tech Ecosystem.
This week, we went back to business-as-usual and worked mainly on the NY Tech Career platform as well as on organizing our next AI community event.
While we focused on behind-the-scenes development this week, we've gathered some fascinating insights about AI, tech careers, and the NYC tech ecosystem to share with you.

π‘ AI Practice Spotlight
Insights of the week: How to create a training with Claude.ai
Last week, we shared our excitement with Claude for image creation and why itβs best for all forms of image creation except for creative designs without text (use Adobe Firefly, ChatGTP or Stability for that).
For this week, letβs dive into another use case: Creating learning material with AI.
Last week, we were working on creating the learning material for NY Tech Career so to also give those a chance to apply for our tech positions that do not yet have tech experience. For that, we wanted to speed up the process and - of course - experimented how we could leverage AI for it.
An example: How to create a Training Pathway with Claude
Figure out what you want to teach. - In our example: A foundational Tech training.
Give the details to Claude. Here is a simple example prompt:
I want to create a training course for career transitioners to learn the most important fundamentals of how a Tech company works and operates. The training should be 4 hours long, include different modules and interactive exercises (please provide the answer to it too) and should have a knowledge quiz at the end. Please provide me with the training outline and structure as well as the content and quizzes of the individual modules of the training course.
The Result
You can view the result of this prompt in the following document: Prompt Result.
The outcome is quite impressive if you realize that this is Claudes first shot.
The Learnings
While AI produces some impressive results, you still need a good understanding of the topic to effectively train others.
We spend countless prompting time to create a good structure for our more deep-dive trainings. And while the results were fantastic as stand-alone solutions, they still required so much work and iterations, so that we did the structure ourselves.
Needless to say, AI did an amazing job to fill in the gaps.
Your turn if you want to use AI to create training content
For Basic Training: Let AI create the structure for you and evaluate and adapt it
I want to create a training for {target group} to learn {learning objective, learning topics}. The training should be {course length} long, include {types, nr of modules} and {type of exercises, quizzes}. Please provide me with the training outline and structure as well as the content and quizzes of the individual modules of the training course.
For Advanced Training: Do the structure and framework yourself and use AI to fill in the gaps and add interactive exercises and quizzes
I have created a training for {training topic} with the following structure {structure} and would like you to provide me with the specific content of {this specific module part}. Please provide me with the content in form of {content, quizzes, exercises, etc} and make it {length} long.
For all content: Use AI to help you create case studies, interactive exercises with example answers, knowledge quizzes, specific training sections and instructional design specifics that help learners to digest the knowledge as best as possible.
For all content: Create your training structure within one chat. You can then have the AI refer back to earlier parts of your chat to create content in the same style and form.
The AI also helps you with designing your content if you ask it to do so and get some ideas or even create the content in form of coding for you.
Industry Insight
A study of 2,330 participants examining AI vs human-written poetry reveals unexpected findings. Research shows:
AI-generated poems (GPT 3.5 without refinement) were rated more favorably than human poems across 13 of 14 quality metrics
Participants performed below chance (46.6% accuracy) at identifying AI-generated poems (including those of Shakespeare and Whitman)
AI poems were more likely to be judged as human-written than actual human poems
Experience with poetry did not improve participants' ability to detect AI authorship
When told a poem was AI-generated (vs human-written), participants rated it significantly lower, showing persistent bias against AI
Key Takeaway: Rather than democratizing poetry creation, AI appears to excel by making poetry more accessible - AI poems are rated higher because they communicate more directly and are easier to understand, while human poems often require deeper analysis and interpretation. This challenges assumptions that poetry would remain a uniquely human domain due to its reliance on creativity and meaning.
