November 2024 Edition #1

Dear NYC AI+ Community,

You may have wondered: What happened to this newsletter? Where did the upcoming AI events in town disappear to? 🀨

Well, life happened! Between European travels, flu challenges, family matters, and a tough NYC apartment hunt, we needed a brief pause. But we're back – and we're evolving!

πŸ”„ Expanding Our Vision

While we'll still keep you informed about key AI events, we're broadening our horizons to better serve NYC's tech ecosystem. Our mission is "Empowering NYC's Tech Future" through three core pillars:

  1. NY Tech Career πŸŽ―

    • Knowledge sharing sessions and mix and mingling

  3. AI Practice πŸ’‘

    • Hands-on AI implementation strategies

    • Practical AI tools and techniques insights

This Week's Must-Attend:

Experience AI Events 🎯:

Practical AI Events (it gets technical) πŸ’»:

Tech Insights Events πŸ’‘:

Most Tech and AI companies are running with a SaaS business model these days. Understanding how to scale and market them is key in today’s noisy markets.

  • LOVC Β· Primary: Scale in B2B SaaS Β· Live Podcast Β· NYC (Thu, Nov 7th) - Dive into the world of B2B SaaS and how to scale these companies effectively in a fireside chat between two venture capitalists sharing their experiences.

  • Women of SaaS Hub Opening NYC (Thu, Nov 14th) - Two women-focused events in tech are already full this week. But this one - focused on SaaS - is not yet at capacity- If you are a woman, this is a great chance to mix and mingle and meet like-minded women. Women of SaaS has its origin in Germany and they are expanding now.

  • TechWalk NYC (Fri, Nov 8th) - TechWalks are a classic in NYC, managed by the fabulous Christine Farrier Rosemin and focused on Tech and SaaS. You meet in Central Park, meet new people to talk to every 10 minutes and at the end you gained new insights, have a new business/career opportunity in your pocket and got a quick breather between your tech and AI work. Always a good time.

πŸ’‘ AI Practice Spotlight

Tool of the Week: Claude.ai

We normally used ChatGPT (paid version) to create logos and images for our business. Since the logos consistently turned out to be blurry, complex and not to be easily replicable, we tried Claude. The result:

  1. Claude produces much easier and modern logos (think Google and Meta).

  2. Claude creates these logos as SVG files/code. You can copy/paste them into Figma without first re-creating them.

  3. Because of 2, Claude is able to make finer and more accurate refinements of the created images and saves you extra time.

  4. The initial promt we used:

I build a company with the name {name} and the following objective {fill it out}. Can you create a logo for that company. Please make it {i.e. smooth, modern and growth-oriented like logos of companies like Google, Microsoft, Miro and co}. Thanks.

You can adapt that prompt with new details and/or ask for iterations of the initial logo design.

Industry Insight

Juniors are expected to be part of a new generation of β€œAI Natives” and will show Seniors how to use AI. But based on research by Katherine Kellogg, Ethan Mollick et al., this is not true. Instead, their research shows that:

  • younger people do not really get AI or how to integrate it into their work

  • experienced managers are often good prompters

  • the technology is advancing quite quickly and you need to keep using it to make sense of it and understand it.

Key Takeaway: It is on all of us to learn it, keep us updated and understand how and when to use it!
